Colon hydrotherapy: digestive cleansing, clearly explained.

Colon hydrotherapy uses controlled water irrigation to empty the large bowel. Some people consider it as part of a personal digestive-wellness routine, but it should not be presented as a whole-body detox or a treatment for disease.

What the procedure does

A local gastrointestinal procedure.

Water is introduced into the colon through appropriate equipment, allowing bowel contents to be evacuated during a supervised session.

This is fundamentally different from DFPP, which circulates blood through a medical plasma-filtration system. The two procedures act on different parts of the body and are not substitutes for one another.

Keep “detox” in context

People often use the word detox to describe colon cleansing. A more accurate description is bowel or digestive cleansing. Claims that colon hydrotherapy removes toxins throughout the body or improves unrelated diseases are not established.

Safety first

Suitability matters.

Not appropriate for everyone

Colon hydrotherapy can involve risks including cramping, fluid or electrolyte disturbance, infection and bowel injury. Certain gastrointestinal, kidney, heart and other health conditions may make it unsuitable. A qualified professional should review relevant health information before the procedure.

Questions to ask

Ask about practitioner training, equipment hygiene, single-use components, the water system, contraindication screening and what to do if symptoms occur.
